What’s Included in AI Marketing Agent?
You can use AI Marketing Agent to make a range of tasks and workflows more efficient, from transforming fragmented market research into focused campaign ideas to turning complex client briefs into actionable strategies. Its main features include:
- Data Room: A secure hub for organizing unstructured data into actionable formats
- Strategy Canvases: A set of tools to structure the frameworks generated using the Data Room to help you build, analyze and execute your marketing strategies
- Web Searcher: A space to delve into external research to enrich your marketing strategies
To get started, set up your workspace using the menu at the top left of your screen. The default will be ‘My first workspace’, but you can change its name by clicking ‘Workspace settings’ or start a new one by clicking ‘New workspace’. You can upload a logo and edit the workspace name in the settings. This is where you can also delete a workspace entirely, but be aware that doing so will permanently delete all projects and assets within it.

Head to your ‘Dashboard’ to ask AI to start a task for you using the search bar and clicking the arrow or pressing return, as pictured above. This will start a new project for you automatically, which you’ll be able to navigate to via the ‘Projects’ folder in the left-hand menu. You can also start your own project from scratch by clicking the ‘+Add Project’ button.

To rename or change the color of a project or delete it entirely, click the three dots either in the left-hand menu or beside the header in the main project area.

Your project page will contain a whiteboard to get you started with idea generation and options to add workflows and data. Click the ‘+New’ button at the top right of your screen to reveal the tools—you can brainstorm on a canvas, which will take you to the ‘Strategy Canvases’ section, or train the model by connecting data sources here.

Click ‘Connect Data’ to head to the Data Room and drag and drop data files, including TXT, DOCX, PPTX, CSV, PDF, MPEG, MP4, MOV and AVI. You can also add website URLs by clicking the link icon—this will allow the AI to enhance the results based on the written information available on your website. Click ‘Search for subpages’ to automatically detect more URLs and select which ones you want to add to a group below.

Any collections you start here will be available in the Data Room in the ‘Added’ section, where you’ll be able to find an AI-generated data summary of your pages.

On your whiteboard for each project, you will see a range of tools to help you with your strategy and workflow, including:
- Text models
- Image
- Research
- Scraper
- Inputs
- Utilities
Click the ‘+’ icon next to any of these to add it to your whiteboard—for example, you might add a ‘Google Search’ from the set of ‘Research’ tools to start collecting information from organic search results.

You can click and drag any item on your whiteboard to move it and scroll in and out to zoom. Double-click on each item to configure it using the menu that will appear on the right-hand side.
Once you’ve added your desired configuration, you can use the ‘Generate’ button to ask AI to perform the task related to the chosen tool—in this case, conduct the research by searching Google.

This area gives you free rein to perform your research with the help of AI as you iterate your marketing strategy.
You can add specific workflows depending on your objectives to help move your strategy along. Click ‘+New’ and then ‘Flow’ on your main project page to get started.

You’ll then see the ‘Flows library’ with categories to help you choose.

Click ‘Run’ on any of the flows to add it to your marketing strategy development—for example, you might want to perform a ‘Competitive analysis’ to get to know your market in more detail before you start creating content.
The AI will generate a workflow based on that particular task, which will be presented as a list with a table of contents for easy navigation. It’ll be completely editable, too, so you can click into a text box to type or use the left-hand menu to add an LLM model, an image model, a researcher or an input to inform the analysis.

To add new sections or to duplicate or move a section in your flow, simply hover over it to reveal the ‘+’ and six-dot icons. Click ‘+’ to add a new section and drag the six dots up or down to reposition an existing section.

The ‘Generate’ button at the top right corner of some modules will help you populate them with AI research based on what you’ve already added to the app. For instance, if you’ve added your homepage URL to the ‘Your website’ section, you can automatically generate a one-pager description to edit and use at your convenience. Simply highlight any text to reveal the editing options.

Any task you add to your workflow will become available on your main project page. Click the three dots to change the name, save as a template, or convert to a whiteboard for idea generation, amongst other options.

To use a template as a starting point for a workflow, head into a whiteboard and select ‘Workflow Templates’. Choose your preferred option and click ‘Use template’ to load it into your whiteboard.

Your whiteboard will then look a little like this template for ‘Instagram Copy & Visuals’ with post-it notes to guide you through the process.

Click the cog icon or tool button in the bottom-right corner of each box to configure it. You can also move any box by clicking and dragging, resize any box using the arrows at the bottom-right corner, and select multiple boxes by holding control or command on your keyboard.

By selecting one or more of the boxes or ‘nodes’, you can ask AI to help you create what you want using the input in the bottom-right-hand corner of your screen.

Data Room
In the ‘Data Room’, you can create ‘Strategy canvases’, ‘Segments’ and ‘Products’ lists to organize your data into actionable formats. It can be considered the backbone of the platform, where all your data is stored and converted into usable outputs.
- Segments: A tool for audience segmentation by demographics and preferences for use in product and campaign marketing
- Products: A place for your product collections to use in marketing assets created by AI Marketing Agent
- Strategy canvases: A set of versatile tools to help you structure and visualize your strategies
If at any point you need to know something about the data you have stored on the platform or, indeed, any of the results generated off the back of it, you can ask the AI for insights using the ‘Ask assistant’ button at the top-right-hand corner of your screen. You can also add more data to your Data Room by using the ‘Add data’ dropdown menu here.

To generate personas for your marketing, click ‘Segments’ and then the ‘+’ button to create a Customer Persona Canvas. Add context for the AI agent to use to hone your personas to your brand using the ‘Context’ button at the top right of your screen. This will present you with a list of data points you’ve added to the app so you can choose which ones to use—you might change these based on different product categories, for example. Select or deselect the boxes until you’re ready to click ‘Save changes’.

This canvas can be edited manually using the text boxes via the ‘Edit’ button or you can ask AI to generate information for you to use or edit as you see fit afterwards. Click ‘Regenerate’ if you want the AI to suggest something else for any particular section or, if you want it to generate data for every section at once, click ‘Regenerate’ at the top-right-hand corner instead. This may take a few moments to populate.

Every saved persona will be listed within the ‘Segments’ section of your Data Room. You can organize your personas by clicking the ‘Create new segment’ button at the top right, while you can add new personas by clicking the ‘+’ button.

To create a collection of products, head into the ‘Products’ section and click the ‘+’ icon and name your collection. You can add your own product collections into AI Marketing Agent using the ‘Import File’ button at the top right—you can configure your list to align it with your business operations from there.

The AI assistant will organize your products for you, but you can also add or delete columns from the table within each collection using the ‘Configure’ button.

Strategy Canvases
With ‘Strategy Canvases’, you can brainstorm ideas for a range of scenarios and use them as a strategic foundation to ensure all insights align with your business objectives.
Canvases include:
- The Brand Canvas: Work on your brand’s personality, values, positioning and more
- Lean Canvas: Develop key elements of your business, from costs and revenue streams to unique value propositions and customer segments
- SWOT Analysis: Define and document your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats with the help of AI
- Competitor Analysis Canvas: Conduct a comprehensive, AI-driven investigation of your competitors to understand the playing field
- Customer Journey Canvas: Visualize your customer touchpoints to help you optimize each experience for your target personas
- Business Model Canvas: Map out the key components of your business model
Click ‘Create’ on any canvas type and use AI to generate ideas for each section. Add pointers for the AI via the ‘Context’ button and change the content in any of the boxes by clicking the ‘Edit’ buttons next to their titles.
You can find more canvas types by clicking ‘View all’ alongside the ‘Library’ section.

This will take you to a list of categorized canvases you can use to your advantage, including ‘Community Growth Canvas’ and ‘Problem Solution Canvas’. Use the search bar to filter the results to your needs.

Web Searcher
The ‘Web Searcher’ module is designed to enrich the Data Room with high-quality, externally-sourced information. It covers:
- Data Collection: Integrating market reports, trend analyses and real-time events
- Real-Time Insights: Providing accurate, relevant market and competitor analysis
- Supported Sources: Integrating data from Semrush and Exploding Topics (additional subscription required)
You might use the ‘Web Searcher’ to bring in data to support your strategic direction and decision-making, such as for content creation. Use the search function by choosing between ‘Quick Research’ and ‘Deep Research’ before typing in your AI prompt and clicking the arrow. For example, you might start with quick research on your website to get insights from what the AI agent can find on the Internet about your brand.

Your results will be displayed in the main window and saved as a search in the ‘Research results’ column on the left. You can iterate the results by adding further prompts using the AI assistant at the bottom of the main screen.

For more in-depth research, select ‘Deep Research’ before submitting your prompt. For instance, you might ask about a competitor to find out what their strategy looks like and use the insights to inform your own plan. This will present you with a long list of information in answer to your question, which you can access again at any time by heading back to the ‘Web Searcher’ and finding the question in your list of ‘Research results’ on the left.

If you want to dive into Semrush data, you need to configure the research parameters first—click on ‘New research’ or ‘Configure prompt’ to open the settings in a menu on the right-hand side. Edit your parameters and click ‘Save’ to generate your results.

You can also leverage the Exploding Topics app here if you have a subscription on the Semrush App Center. This lets you explore emerging trends to capitalize on with your content strategy. For more information about how to use the app, head to the Exploding Topics article.
